After School & Early Release Paddling - 130709

Ages 5-7, 7-10. Each week kids will explore the waters and beaches around Bainbridge Island, play games & activities, discover marine life, and improve their paddling skills. Instructors will introduce everyone to a variety of kayaks, canoes and paddle boards, helping kids get comfortable and confident. With Bainbridge’s abundant shoreline, kids will also have ample opportunities to learn about local marine life. Ages 12-99. Learn hands-on how to plan your own overnight and multiday kayaking trips! We’ll cover contingency planning, outfitting your kayak for expeditions, gear checklists, proper route planning, accounting for tides, and other marine considerations. Then as a group we’ll implement these skills in real life by planning and carrying out an overnight kayak camping trip to Blake Island. After this fun expedition you’ll have the knowledge and experience you need to embark on your own multi-day adventures! While staff recommend signing up for both the classroom planning and trip to get the full experience, it is acceptable to only choose one. A parent or guardian must attend on trip. Ages 13-17. Combine kayaking on beautiful Lake Ozette with backpacking the rugged Olympic Coast! We'll spend several days paddling to remote camps along the lakeshore and on tiny islands. Then we'll trade our kayaks for backpacks and find a hidden rainforest trail to the coast, where we'll enjoy sandy beaches, towering sea stacks, and great sunsets. You’ll learn the essentials of both backpacking and expedition kayaking, including packing backpacks and kayaks, risk assessment, setting up camp, and safely traveling as a team by boat and foot.

Advanced Paddle Camp - 430725

For kids who loved our Otters and Orcas paddling camps and are ready for a bigger challenge, this weeklong camp will introduce participants to a whole new level of paddling skills, including rescue techniques and more ambitious paddling destinations. The week will culminate an overnight kayak and canoe camping trip to Fort Ward, where participants will learn hands on how to pack boats for expeditions as well as getting to explore the area and help with camp activities. This program is a great next step for kids who love paddling and want to gain the skills and confidence to join us on future multi-day trips and other paddling adventures. Participants must have completed an Otters or Orcas day camp, a after school paddling program, or have Paddling Program Coordinator approval in order to be eligible to enroll. Deadline to enroll is two weeks before program start date. Thursday’s session of camp continues through the evening with camping in Fort Ward until Friday morning, where everyone will cook breakfast and enjoy a morning paddle. Camp will be over at 10:00am Friday.** Meals, boats, and camping equipment - except for sleeping bags - are provided. Swim License required. BP101 Recommended.

All Ages. An afternoon adventure complete with good food, an exciting paddle, and even prehistoric petroglyphs. We’ll paddle from Port Madison over to Suquamish for a tasty lunch at Sully’s Bar and Bistro, then head back across the channel to Agate Point, where we’ll check out Haleets, the glacial rock containing ancient petroglyphs thought to be carved by members of the Suquamish tribe as much as 3000 years ago.
